The Amazing Echidna
Hello! Have you ever heard about an animal called an echidna? It is similar to that of the platypus, in a way, because it is a mammal that lays eggs and dwells in Australia. Echidnas are extremely fascinating creatures. They have a long snout, and an even longer tounge, which they use to lick ants out of anthills! They are covered in dense hair and very thick, spiny quills, which makes them look remarkably like an oversized hedgehog! When their young hatch from their leathery eggs, they drink milk from their mother. However, the echidna doesn't actually have nipples. Instead, there are special patches on the belly where milk simply seeps from. Echidnas are also one of the only two mammals that lay eggs. The other is the platypus. These kind of mammals are called monotremes.
As you can now see, the echidna is a fabulous animal!
